Serving suggestions

Split a bean lengthwise and scrape the seeds into custard, panna cotta, whipped cream, ice cream base or cake batter. Don't toss the pod: bury it in a jar of sugar for vanilla sugar, or steep it in warm cream. To make your own extract, split 3 or 4 beans, cover them with 8 oz of vodka or bourbon, and let it sit for at least 2 months, shaking every couple of weeks.

About the Maker

Diaspora Co. is a radically transparent spice brand dedicated to building an equitable, modern South Asian spice trade. By completely bypassing the colonial-era commodity market, they partner directly with small, regenerative family farms across India and Sri Lanka, paying an average of four times the standard fair-trade rate. They source exceptional, single-origin heirloom varieties that are harvested at peak potency and milled in small, seasonal batches for unmatched aroma and flavor.
